God, I will be very sad to see GW go.

Once those servers are closed, I'm going to truly miss it. No matter how good GW2 is, the first one was one hell of a game, and it's devs and players both truly loved it. It was a groundbreaker, and it holds a very special place in my heart, as I'm sure it does for a lot of people.

you can all laugh at me for this, and it's ok, I can take it...

But here's some perspective -

My mom was playing it first, and told me about it, and bought me my first copy, 'cause she knew I would like it. My parents were my first guild leaders. (I'm 32 now, so I guess I was 27 or 28 at the time. No, I'm not in her basement, or anything stupid.)

I met my wife in GW.
She has more charicters, more titles, more hours, more minipets, more rare weapons, a more full HoM, and more plat than I do. Hell, she's GWAMM and I'm not quite, yet.

My daughter, who is 10 now, sat on my knee and laughed like a mad-woman at the funny Moa Bird fighting things, and she made her first charicter and ran around pre-sear, singing funny songs and killing the stupid worms in that farmer's fields for as long as we would let her. And when she finished her first mission in proph, I bought her first set of armor. We give her all our dedicated minis, and she loves having them, plays with those as much as she plays the game. She still calls the Asuras the 'little bunny guys'.

I dont know if I had a point or not, other than telling stories about my life that I probably shouldn't.

But, a dying GW is a sad thought for me.

Three generations of Cusfreaks, you should make an in-game family photo :)

It will be a sad day for me too when the last Guild Wars server hard-drive spins its last spin. The game has been home from home, though I am not a gamer as I keep repeating, I am a GW freak :) Got some good mates and matesses in the game :)

OK wait... are you saying GW1 now has a fixed end date? or are you just worrying out loud that player migration to GW2 might dwindle GW1 into server close-down?

Nothing been said about GW1 shutting down.. It is possible though, and maybe something very realistic. I'd be sad if it would shut down as well, I hope they keep it online (maybe on a few old servers) just for those wanting to log in for nostalgic values. Either way, we don't know yet

You guys seems to really enjoy the game, and you have my sympathy if GW1 does shut down. It sounds like a safe assumption since its free to play. It will be just burning money so they may want to get rid of it But never give up hope they may just downsize as well.

You got the Eye of the North expansion coming out for Guild Wars later this year - but what's going to happen to Guild Wars after the expansion comes out now that Guild Wars 2 is coming?

Jeff Strain: We'll continue to support it with live content, we'll continue to have holiday events and support the tournament infrastructure of the game. It's obviously very much in our best interests to keep Guild Wars players happy, because we think most of those Guild Wars players will be Guild Wars 2 players. Between now and the release of Guild Wars 2, Guild Wars will be fully supported by us as a development team.

The other important point to make is that nobody has to worry about what's going to happen to the Guild Wars servers or Guild Wars 1 after Guild Wars 2 ships. As long as there are people playing and enjoying Guild Wars 1, we'll continue to run the servers and support the game. Source.
This was announced a long time ago. GW1 won't be shutting down. =/
