  • Introducing the Warrior and the GW2 Trait System

Big News today folks, ArenaNet have just published an article introducing the next profession in their line up and this time its the Warrior, after a brief intro to the profession the article goes on to outline massive range of weapons at a warrior's disposal (nine in all!), special skill types and various mechanics.

The warrior is a master of weapons who relies on speed, strength, toughness, and heavy armor to survive in battle. A warrior can shrug off blow after blow to stay in the fight, all the while building up adrenaline to fuel his offense.
Check out some of these skills in action.

And as if that wasn't enough, in a separate article, ArenaNet's, Ben Miller, introduces the Guild Wars 2 Traits system.

    What are traits?
At a basic level, traits make you better at what you choose to do. You slot traits in order to modify skills and attributes. Once you have mastered a handful of traits they become a key component in creating your overall build.
Each profession focuses on different activities to develop his or her traits. Warriors train physically, bash stuff, eat stuff, and drink stuff. Elementalists, on the other hand, seek ancient knowledge locked in tomes or particularly powerful elemental locations. The different trait challenges accentuate the unique feel of that profession and really bring the experience of playing that profession to life.

Trait hunting sounds like a lot of fun! Find an old swordsman in an inn and challenge him to a duel to teach you a thing or two, search old ruins for ancient texts of magical spells. I'm looking forward to it.

Trait hunting sounds like a major change. If this trait system works as described we are going to see much more variation in people with the same profession. Not in the Guild Wars 1 system, where you either have a certain skill or not, but more sophisticated; you can develop the skill after you have acquired it. If you combine this with the different races you can choose in GW2 this makes for an awfully broad spectrum. It's agony to have to wait for the release of the new game, but the longer the wait the better it is going to get.

Agreed, its something that will make it all the more fun. One of GW1's biggest let downs was the only minor changes that could be made to personalise your character. They seem to have a lot of the game figured out at this point, and with a demo coming around soon it will be sure to release sometime relatively soon.

P.S. Welcome to the forums Historicus :)
