  • Introducing the Necromancer | GuildWars2.com

I have played a Necromancer at GamesCom and it made me go "woaow". Today, ArenaNet shares more information by adding it to the official GuildWars2.com website together with a traditional skill video.

A necromancer is a practitioner of the dark arts who summons the dead, wields the power of lost souls, and literally sucks the lifeblood of the enemy. A necromancer feeds on life force, which he can use to cheat death or bring allies back from the brink.

A necromancer feeds on death and decay. Life force is the energy that a necromancer uses to extend his own life. Using specific skills, a necromancer builds up life force by attacking and killing enemies. Rather than going into a downed state when he runs out of health, a necromancer automatically activates the Death Shroud ability. A necromancer can continue fighting in the ghostly Death Shroud form until he either runs out of life force or he gets a kill, rallying back into his own corpse.

From the comments by the developer it would seem that the necro is designed to be a robust character, tough with good survivability, somewhat how the ranger is in GW1. Looks an interesting way to go, charr necro. Of course, I haven't played one yet as you subtly point out Laida :) *chews desk in anguish*

the zombie hands sooo reminded me off Diablo 3 Voodoo priest... but i guess when the ncsoft has a former blizzard dev's in the ncsoft team, it leaves me wondering what would they migrate from Diablo 3 to Guild Wars 2 in terms of gameplay and skills ?

i love putrid explosion, my fave skill so far. although i dont like the description they put on gw2.com its like someone ruined it for them and they just put a whole bunch of gibberish together, not that exciting.

The zombie hands appear somewhere in ancient greek mythology somewhere if I am not mistaken, a source of rich pickings for film makers and game developers, as are Tolkein's works. There is nothing really new, everything is 'borrowed'.

Yeah they look like that when using that skill in other skills they look different :) way better cause those minions are like deformed rats with a human skull xD

I like the idea that they make them Minion Masters, brings back the feeling when people farmed outside Warcamp and in Sorrow's Furnace with them.
The idea I do NOT Support is the fear condition, YES I know this is a new game but bringing this will just make Necromancer look like any other class in any other game, Mesmer and Necromancer is what makes the game a whole new experience.

Agreed with Razarh i think they should make Fear monster bound only and if you can use it on other players in PvP aswell i want like a big Fear counter skill or a less longer fear cause its a cool condition but just doesnt fit the game ;0

Fear is just one of the ways of controlling an enemy's position on the field - theyve talked about Control as a major aspect of battle.
I think you can expect to see 'Hold' skills and KDs to keep them in place, some way to bring enemies to you just as Fear sends them away, and other things that let you decide where you want them to be...like in your well, trap, static field, or bonfire. And I'm sure there will be counters to these methods as well.

Yes they've already announced that there will be a specialized class when it comes to condition removal.
but as I said before, fear doesn't make the class unique.
I have only mentioned Fear, knockdowns are obvious to have as it's been here since the very start.

Watching the gameplay demo videos, there seems to be plenty knock-down :)
