  • A Rewarding Experience – John Hargrove Talks About Loot | ArenaNet

A very interesting article has popped up on the ArenaNet website. This time around we're being spoiled with more information about the loot in Guild Wars 2, most definitely an article many fans have been waiting for. A must read for everyone!

In Guild Wars 2 we’re fully committed to the concept of rewarding players individually. This is more or less a quick way of saying that we don’t want to design a system where players argue over loot settings, turn to external “out of game” systems to decide who gets what upon downing a boss, or risk spending hours in a dungeon with nothing to show for it due to bad rolls or a ninja looter that hijacked all their treasure.
Head on over to the ArenaNet website to read the full article!

In the following example, this is a cloth crest that a Tailor could make for light armor.
How I understood, instead of getting pieces of specific armor set. You get an armor set item that you can use on your already existing armor pieces giving them bonuses.
Example. Lets say you do a dungeon and loot 4x "crest" then you can use it on 4 different armor pieces of your choice, basically changing your old armor into dungeon set armor.
So you may have to do a dungeon few times to gather enough crests but you don't need to gather specific armor pieces.

I hope this answered your "question". :)

I watched the Ranger one from PAX and I love Guild Wars but lately as I see more and more of GW2, I am getting reluctant as to whether I would buy it or not. It's looks no different than Runes Of Magic even the skills, the way rewards are given almost everything seems to be very similar to Runes of Magic. The NPC's are plain looking and everything seems to look as a Caucasian world, where is the diversity of cultures? If I wanted to look like I was born in colonial America and wanted everything to look as such, I'd play a game similar to that. I don't know I guess I need to see more. So far what I have seen hasn't been too appealing, and the game play seemed too easy, I know you were level 1 but even in the regular GW the game play was a little harder than that seemed. Maybe you can explain what the other characters are doing and if it was their involvement that made it seem so easy.

I think this has been covered elsewhere in the forums but I will try to work through your points :) First I don't know Runes of Magic so I can't comment other than to say that the skill set seems very similar in feel to GW1. As for the 'caucasion' look, and GW2 being too easy, remember we have only seen the demos from gamescom and pax, where the object was to give players 40 minutes to explore the world a bit and get a feel for the game. There was no point in Arenanet making 'hard' content for the demo, that would waste players time. The human players in the demos would by definition be human, the charr demos were certainly not 'caucasian' in feel, and when we eventually see the other races, we will be able to judge the differences better. I susspect when we actually come to play the game, it will start fairly easy but quickly become very hard. As it is a persistent world, with more real time variables than GW1 I suspect GW2 will be a lot more challenging :) In any case, it is too soon to tell :)

I fully agree with Jack's response; however, I'd like to expand on it just a bit.

In GW1's Prophecies, there isn't an array of ethnic backgrounds for the human NPCs. True diversity wasn't noticed until the release of Factions and then Nightfall when new continents were opened to the explorers. Tyria's human NPCs were nothing more than Caucasians with a slight tan (in the desert at least). Factions and Nightfall brought in new facial structures, skin pigments, cultures, and things of the like. Therefore, I believe that IF there is absolutely no other racial background in the release of GW2, that there will be new ethnic backgrounds in the expansions.

With that being said, I do believe that there will be a diversity of ethnic backgrounds come release. There will be those who migrated and those that fled their home country seeking refuge. The continent on which we play will be a "Melting Pot" of cultures, races, religions, and all that makes everyone a special snowflake.

As for the "too easy" bit, I agree with Jack yet again. All that we have seen is demos and clips. We won't know the difficulty level of the game until release. I believe that the game will progress in difficulty with the progression of your level/area on the map. It won't be easy throughout the game. ^__^

All in all, it's too early to decide if the game will be a fail fit for you. Like you said, you just need to see more---as do we all.

      this is awesome!
the dungeon sets that were mentioned first of all dont hold any significance as a "set" for those that were wondering the bonuses. the sets mentioned are a set because it looks good togeather and was disigned with to all have a simular look to all pieces. people usually associate with a "set" will be provided by an item that u will use on a piece of armor to give it bonuses with other pieces of armor that u have also used that item on, so you will be able to have the bonuses on armor that can be mixed from several dungeons and still get the "set" bonuses for having so many pieces that u used that item on giving u a more unique look if u choose so.

also that you can take the looks of one piece of gear and give it the stats from another is just plain awesome, this really allows us all to be unique in the game world and keep a look that we peronaly like without haveing to drasticly change every few months and wear really missmatched armor or armor that we hate the looks of but have no choice because it is the best in the game atm. lol im really happy about this idea... charactors will actually be able to be recognizable from each other insted of their name being the only way to tell them apart... personal taste is a beautiful thing

(4): Thunderclap (50% chance on Critical)
      (5): +5% Critical Chance

So the more pieces of armor sets you have the more bonuses you get. Example: you add set bonus to your head slot you get the first bonus (+10int), then you add crest to your feet piece, you now have 2 pieces of that set. So you have the second bonus too (+20 perception).

That's how it sounds, though there is no mention of whether the same type of crest will stack ie a crest of the legion +10 intelligence on 2 armour pieces would give you +20 intelligence? We will have to wait for more details, but the system sounds similar to the GW1 original where you got max armour from the desert collectors, and those pieces already had bonuses built in :)

I'm fairly certain it won't be like that
