ArenaNet explains why they can't give out Guild Wars 2 release date yet. As hard as that answer is for all of the eager fans out there, they say it is the most honest and accurate one they can provide.

They say coordanating a group of more than 150 people is hard enough, then it gets harder when you are making a game that requires hundreds of hours of content. Naturally ArenaNet wants to do a good job with their work and thats why the process of game making is slow.

They like to use a very iterative development process. This means they try to prototype and implement systems early in the game and then they play with them to see how they work. Sometimes only a part of a system is used, or they don't like how it works and they throw it out completely, only to start over from scratch.

This kind of system makes their schedule very unpredictable which is definitely a down side for an approach of this sort. On the upper hand it helps them get things right which is a good thing for a consumer. All the testing with a system results in it being shaped and perfected to make the best effect on the game as a whole.

They couldn't guarantee us the best result possible if they were more worried with the release date being close and having to finish the game to that deadline. Doing it their way the result makes players happy as well as the creators.

We are given information on the game whenever an information is certain. They are not holding anything back to tease us and they are not on any information schedule. They simply release information when it is ready.

Proffesions information for example, were released when they felt confident that the basic mechanics and skills for a particular proffesion were reasonably stable.

Being closer to release, answer to THE question remains about the same. ArenaNet wants to finish their job the way it was ment. We pay the price of not knowing and in return we get no content cutting, no proffesion cutting, no race cutting. I think it's a great deal! We get to play Guild Wars 2 as a whole, the way it was ment to be!

ArenaNet is working as hard as they can to finish the game. Another proffesion is in a good state to start a long process for its debut so we can expect the 5th proffesion in matter of weeks I presume. They are also getting closer to finishing the remaining proffesions. As holidays are near they promise more work and less information, after new year they promise new flow of information and a surprise or two!

Well, nothing new but it's a great read nontheless, great to get some more information behind the whole process of development and it kind of soothes the pain of waiting to hear (once again) that they don't want to show us anything that is even remotely unfinished. A polished product at launch is well more appreciated than a game with a lot of hotfixes after release!

Thanks for the nicely written article :)
