  • Guilds in Guild Wars 2

In the latest developer panel at PAX 2011, ArenaNet finaly releases some more information about guilds in Guild Wars 2.
    • Your entire account belongs to one or multiple guilds, you can be part of multiple guilds but only represent one at the same time, you can only read guildchat of one for example.
    • You choose the guild you want to be in at that time, you can swap whenever you like.
    • You can earn influence with a guild when you do things together with your guild, these unfluence points can be spent on a "tech tree/perks" to unlock things like like storage, calendars, flag buffs, ...
    • Guilds can take keeps in WvWvW and can use their influence/perks to make it harder for others to take their keep.

How has no one commented on this yet? It's something that as a future guild leader I found quite important and it has some definite positives, but also some serious challenges. Super guilds, selfish guild members and split player base are just some of my concerns. Yet, conversely, the system also promotes guild spirit when earned rightfully.

      Hi Agrestal,

I agree with your concern, it will be interesting to watch how players react to this free guild system. Perhaps most will just stick with the one guild or maybe we will find a new unique guild structure. There is another thread which covers this topic some more, with more opinions and ideas. Check it out here Being part of multiple guilds...

You're indeed not the only one with concerns, I'm sure ArenaNet needs to a lot more explaining on this topic before all people are persuaded that this is a good thing to have.

But I feel that mainstream MMO's might have blurred our vision on this, ArenaNet is just giving us an option to be part of multiple guilds. It sounds crazy, but it seems somewhat logical to at least have this as an option. In the end it's still the guild leader & its members to decide to become part of multiple guids or not.

But as Casta said, we have a short discussion going in a different thread, feel free to check that out as well :)

Welcome to the forums btw ^^
