    Hello everyone!

I want to first say that I'm highly impressed with the level of intelligence in the GW community both in game and in the forums versus the WoW community. Kudos to us!

That aside, I was thinking of how I played WoW as a helpful member of the community, putting my own agenda aside if anyone, new or experienced, needed help with anything. I fully intened to continue that trend in GW2. That being said, who else has a helpful spirit eager to help out in GW2?

I have posted snippets on this subject in other threads, particularly when talking about the Hall of Monuments. This is the reason I play the game. When some poor soul has just been told he is a noob with a crap build and kicked from a party, I generally leave (don't want to party with such people) and ask if they would like to play around a bit, sort the basics. Sometimes this takes an hour, sometimes 3, sometimes goes on in small chunks over days. Often their friends join in. It isn't that I am an Uber Player (very few of those around), I am pretty smart though when it comes to logic and problem solving.

My guild ethos was built around the principles of helping folk out. The downside though is that people join, get good, and because we are not an 'ambitious' guild, they leave to do the stuff they are now equipped to do (I usually point them in the direction of a suitable guild :)

We all have different reasons for playing these games, I have no problem with people who wish to concentrate on their own aganda, it is a free world, as long as they treat other players with respect.

Outside the game itself, I apply the same ethos to posts on the forums, there are plenty of members who don't have English as their first language, which makes it often hard to navigate or understand the wiki for example. I (and plenty others on the forums) try to answer questions simply, making the points that are important, and hope that someone will expand, adding colour and detail :) I hope it helps.
I may be wrong, check what I say

Exactly. What I can't seem to understand is how those same players calling others noobs and refusing to help were also noobs themselves...It's like they can't remember what it was like when they needed help to start off. That is one major difference I've noticed between the GW community and the WoW community. If you want to do your own thing, more power to ya! But, if someone asks for help, don't down them for being new. We're all here for the same reason. If you don't have time to help out because you are enroute to a raid or something, that's perfectly fine. If you don't feel comfortable helping people, that's fine too! Just don't be a **** about it! :)

I'm the same way when it comes to the forums, which again, I've noticed a huge difference between the GW forums and the WoW forums. I was quite impressed with the thought put into each post on the topic of the charr being an intelligent race. On the WoW forums, all you would have heard was "ur a Nub!" or something to do with anal this or anal that. SO glad I cancled my subscription back in February!

i really love helping people out ingame when i have nothing better to do, i was sitting around on my ranger for a day a week after nightfall came out collecting trophy items and handing out a bunch of max dmg 15^50 scythes to new dervishes that just started, i said i was giving out free weaps to people who would play a little trivia game and won but they were all surprised when i gave 1 to every one that responded regardless of winning or lossing. sometimes the way to help people out and make their day is just to serprise them with something they wernt expecting evern if it goes against what u tell em... its gonna be great in gw2 with the crafting lotta stuff to give out to new players

That's the kind of things I like to hear. Back in my WoW days, I'd camp out in the starting character zone for each race from time to time and hand out 20g to all new players spawning in. For those of you not familiar with WoW, as a starting character, getting 1 gold takes a good bit of time and effort, and to be handed 20 makes the giver a patron saint! I'd also offer free dungeon runs for people having trouble completing one, give away stacks of mats, etc.

I would help someone if they really need it (have a really bad build/ask for help).
But the money giving? Meh, that's not my cup of tea. You gotta work for that, otherwise you lose a bit of the fun of the game.
Just like they do with people in Africa, give them a fishing pole instead of the fish.

The great noob times. I needed a second profession in The Searing. But I kept telling myself I WANT to be a warrior, but it didn't work and I couldn't go further in the game. Till a guy came, and said: Haha. No worries let me help. Your first Profession is a Warrior, but you need a different one. Like a Ranger.

    Ah great Noob times.
